Samsung electronics and Q CELLS have recently announced a new strategic alliance, where the two companies will merge their technological expertise to introduce “zero energy home” solutions to the market. Zero energy homes are self-sufficient when it comes to energy usage. This is because they can efficiently utilize the energy, drawn from the home itself. Energy is produced through renewables like solar and also by reducing energy consumption with the utilization of more efficient devices. With this partnership, both the companies aim at working together towards establishing new solutions, where Samsung’s SmartThings Energy service will be connected to Q CELLS’ solar modules and energy storage systems (ESS). This would help homeowners produce and store energy, harness the SmartThings IoT platform to monitor, automatically optimize energy consumption in their home appliances and heat pumps (EHS, Eco Heating System). In a nutshell, the solution is capable of automatically switching on/off home appliances that are paired with the platform and can have the energy-saving mode at night or on cloudy days, when solar energy capture levels are low.
“We look forward to our collaboration with Q CELLS expanding our presence and strengthening the Samsung brand in global markets. We anticipate great synergy between Samsung’s smart home appliances and SmartThings platform, and Q CELLS’ solar energy and storage solutions”, stated Jaeseung Lee, President and Head of Samsung Electronics, Digital Appliances Business.
“We expect the partnership between these two Korean companies to provide our global customer base with even more competitive energy solutions. We are hopeful that synergizing with Samsung Electronics will help strengthen our leading position in the global residential energy market”, added Hee Cheul (Charles) Kim, CEO, Q CELLS.
